More in Trigger point therapy-
A trigger point is a localized intramuscular spasm. It usually involves one or more long muscle fibers. When in spasm, the trigger point will trigger a referred pain syndrome distant to itself. The name trigger point refers to the point at which when pushed will cause and repeatedly cause the same spot foreign to it to hurt. Example would be that when pushing on the belly of the trigger point in the trapezius muscle (between shoulder and ear) for example, causes referred pain deeply into the back of the head-and a severe headache only when pushing on this trigger point.
The backnobber II is great for self therapy and removal of these deep seated trigger points. It is important to remove them because unless the muscle regains normal length and the trigger points are removed, abnormal physiology of that muscle will remain.
This causes scarring and adhesions in a muscle, which is very painful. Abnormal muscular metabolism will further cause lactic acid buildup because blood simply cannot flow enough to flush it out. That irritates nerve endings and further aggravages trigger points and their respective surroundings.
